WeatherWhy(r)
WeatherWhys (R): The outflow of any hurricane is an essential part of storm intensity. If more air is leaving from the top of the hurricane than coming in at the surface, the storm is being evacuated and the central pressure must lower. This in turn causes a steeper pressure gradient, and the wind field surrounding the storm becomes stronger. The signature of all major hurricanes is a strong outflow in the upper portions of the atmosphere.
